Åh gud, nu sidder jeg her dagen før at torsker med en engelsk oversættelse. Rette den ,det kan jeg ikke. Jeg ser mine egne fejl i blinde, men dette er vist meget normalt.

Heroes before and now
Horatio Nelson is one of the personalities that many consider a true English hero. But heroes are different in our time. At least if the media reflects the reality. Today sport stars and celebrities from TV, are worshipped as heroes in stead of humans that fight for bigger political causes. It can be hard to accept the new idols. The older generation, that think back on WWII and the heroes, which they remember from that time, are wondering why a pop idol and a “Survivor” contestant are almost worshipped by their grandchildren. Today’s media probably fights more for its own immortality instead of the salvation of its nation, and it gives food for thought, that the latest information of the Big Brother show contestants are so important that the public must see them on the front page of the news papers.
Money is also an important factor. If the investors think that the economy looks reasonable, they invest, and their money participate in creating the new heroes. Sport has for a long time been a turf that creates heroes, but with the huge financial interests that are involved now a days, a World Cup Victory is the direct way to hero status. The home town arranges a heroic welcome, a crowd shouts with joy, playing orchestra and the family is interviewed.
But the society does not worry too much about the fate of their heroes when the medals are given. It can be difficult to be a hero, when everybody forgets you with the constant amount of news always changing. Sudden and perhaps undeserved fame is not a new invention, but the masses are more faithless today.
